From pop to Punjabi and from rock to remixes, singer Vipin Aneja prefers to be versatile and sings every genre in his performances. After winning a music show on a television channel, Vipin recently got an opportunity to participate in an A R Rehman concert and he thanks his lucky stars for that. After that came his remix songs which made him a pop star.
For someone who graduated with a degree in management from New York University, Vipin decided to pursue his childhood passion—music as a career.
Vipin will now start his Bollywood innings, debuting with the movie Sahib Biwi aur Gangster. He says, “I have done a Bollywood theme song for this film and waiting for the film to release. People have always appreciated my work and I hope this time also I will be able to meet their expectations.” We ask him why he chose music over management and he says, “Music has been my passion. But only passion can’t help you earn your bread and butter. Due to my business administration training I am able to deal with producers and sponsors better.” Vipin feels he has been lucky in getting to work with A.R.Rehman at the initial stage of his career. He says, “It is any singer’s dream come true. Rehman sir himself invited me to join him in his concert in Malaysia and Dubai. It proved to be a great learning experience as he is very humble. Though he is a legendary musician, he always keeps upgrading himself. I learnt from him how to be grounded.”
Vipin’s career took a turn after he won a music show. He says, “The show was not a reality show with voting system. But such shows including the reality shows of today are a great medium to showcase new talent especially for people who belong to small towns and do not get enough opportunities.” He further adds, “The important challenge starts after you win a reality show and have to survive in the field. When you are basking in the glory of your success, there are already many other stars ready to compete with you. It is a short lived glory as people forget the reality show winners quickly unless they keep doing something to be in the public eye. The shelf life of such success is short.”
Talking about today’s film lyrics, Vipin says that he does not like the raunchy lyrics in film songs today. He says, “But the songs are very popular with Gen Z. As a professional I do not mind singing them.” Vipin believes that working for someone can be a learning experience too. He says, “When you work independently you stick to your own style and work in a comfort zone. But when you work with someone, you have to work differently. You have to be a versatile singer.” As of now Vipin enjoys living for the moment. “I just wish my voice is able to connect with the masses,” he says on a parting note.
